Minecraft is a blank canvas when it comes to what you can create. This can sometimes make it hard to know where to start. If you want to build something but don’t know where to start, check out my seven tips for how to get inspiration for your Minecraft builds.
1. YouTube
The most accessible place to start looking for inspiration is YouTube! You can look up practically any tutorial, so you'll always have ideas for your builds. You don't even have to watch tutorials; you can watch tours of other players' builds or even some gameplay. Inspiration could spark here, too!
You can check out my YouTube channel, where I post relaxing Minecraft build tutorials and design hacks.
2. Minecraft Forums
Minecraft forums are a great place to get advice and inspiration from other players. There are Reddit forums for players looking for inspiration, such as r/Minecraftbuilds, r/Detailcraft, or the more general r/Minecraft forum. Although the Minecraft forum on Reddit may not be explicitly devoted to inspiration for your builds, you may find something that interests you.
3. Forums in General
Looking for inspiration doesn't have to be limited to Minecraft content. You can find inspiration in many different places and subjects, so check out other forums!
An excellent place to start looking for inspiration is an architecture photography forum. Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe are famous architects whose designs could easily be recreated in Minecraft, so you could try researching their work to start out in your search for inspiration.
Nature photography is another great source of inspiration. From mountains to beaches to jungles, you'll definitely find something that piques your creative side.

4. Pinterest
Pinterest is a photo-sharing website where you can save your favorite photos or "pins." Like photography forums, there are all sorts of niche subjects you can research on Pinterest. Not only will there be a ton of inspiration on this site, but their interface also makes it easy to keep your ideas organized when you need to return to them. Sort your inspiration into different categories for quick access when you want to start building! Psst.. feel free to check out my Pinterest, where I save and share a lot of Minecraft build tutorials and ideas!
5. Play on a Server
Playing solo is great, but playing with friends and other Minecraft enthusiasts can get your creative juices flowing when you need help deciding what to build! Look for a realm to join, or start yourself and encourage people to be as creative as they want.
6. Write Down Your Ideas
You never know when inspiration will strike, so it's essential to keep track of your ideas to come back to later. Write them down in a notebook or your phone, so you can come back to them when you log back into Minecraft!
7. Keep a Dream Journal
A dream journal is another excellent place to draw inspiration from. Try keeping track of your dreams for a few weeks, and you're bound to write down some interesting and surreal ideas. These ideas could be translated into some pretty cool Minecraft builds!
Final Thoughts
Minecraft allows you to create anything your imagination can come up with. This can sometimes feel overwhelming and leave you wondering where to start. If you look for inspiration in some of the places we listed, you'll decide on your next Minecraft builds in no time.
